LEXINGTON – Kentucky Nonprofit Network will recognize Centerstone Kentucky of Louisville; Tim Magill of Versailles; and Todd P. Lowe of Louisville at the 16th annual Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Forum Oct. 18 in Lexington.
Centerstone Kentucky will receive the 2018 Innovative Nonprofit Award, which recognizes an organization that implements inventive, nontraditional programs or methods that effectively meet community needs. The award recipient is required to demonstrate creativity and vision in finding unique solutions to those needs.
Centerstone Kentucky won for “The Living Room Project” – a first and one-of-a-kind diversion program in Kentucky serving adults dealing with substance abuse disorder and/or serious mental illness. The program offers a compassionate, supportive and clinically effective environment as an alternative to jail, emergency department visits or inpatient hospitalization. One unique aspect of the program is its peer support specialists – individuals in recovery with lived experiences are heavily integrated into welcoming, talking and encouraging Living Room guests. The program focuses on “high utilizers” – people in the community that cycle in and out of the system and are often turned away from other programs.
Tim Magill, executive director of Life Adventure Center in Versailles is being awarded the 2018 Distinguished Nonprofit Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership among Kentucky nonprofit chief executives. The award recognizes achievement in the areas of strategic leadership, community building, ethical integrity, innovation, and commitment to strengthening the nonprofit sector.
Magill‘s nonprofit career began over thirty years ago and he became the leader of Life Adventure Center (LAC) in 2012. Noted for his servant leadership style and commitment to partnerships with other nonprofits, mental health professionals and schools, Magill is credited with revamping LAC’s business model to include more donations so the organization could expand its professionally supervised outdoor group challenges and shared reflection opportunities with underserved populations. Under Magill’s leadership, LAC achieved a significant milestone in 2017 when over 50% of LAC’s services were offered to economically challenged, abused, neglected and vulnerable children and families. When combined with its services for veterans, military families and others participants recovering from trauma, LAC now serves significantly more underserved populations at free or greatly reduced rates as a result of Magill’s vision.
Todd P. Lowe, board member with Fund for the Arts in Louisville will receive the 2018 Outstanding Board Leadership Award. The award highlights the work of a board leader who is strategic-thinking and works cooperatively to further the mission of an organization and is actively committed to best practices.
Lowe is noted as a strategic and visionary collaborator, leader, and advocate – capable of simultaneously advancing the interests of individual organizations and the entire sector. He is praised for his fundraising and advocacy skills, as well as his leadership of a number of boards of directors of arts organizations, including Fund for the Arts during periods of significant transition and growth. Lowe is president and a founder of Parthenon LLC, an investment advisory firm that serves families, foundations and institutional clients. He was also once a professional musician who played jazz, rock and classical music.
The awards will be presented during the Kentucky Nonprofit Awards Luncheon, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Kentucky, at noon Oct. 18. Registration for the luncheon only are $45 for KNN members and $65 for potential members. Tables of eight are also available for purchase.
